Get Ready for the Weekend!

Yesterday I completed my Editor's Union orientation. I'm so close guys, so close. I just have to pay my dues and I'm in. It's going to be life changing. 600 hours then I get the best health coverage possible. I need to get an accountant. I'm growing up. I got my paychecks yesterday for my first 11 days of work. Awesome. Amazing. I just put the money in the bank. Some of it will go to rent and then I should use the rest for dues or something. But I just want it to sit in there. Hmmmmm. It feels good.

I've been real scatter-brained lately. I hope I'm not going crazy during such a great time in my life. I forgot my wallet at home, then my bag at a friends house then left my ipod playing all night and my computer not charging. What happened? Why? I lost some keys. Aaaaahhhh.

I had a meeting regarding a project, code-named Community Girl. I'm excited about it, but I'm also reluctant, because there are two ways to go about doing things and I can't help but try to go about the super professional route. That way is real stressful and sort of goes against the spirit of the project, but if I truely want the project to be the best it can be it'd doing it an injustice to go about it any other way... Also, I feel like I have more technical knowledge and skill than my partners, which is just more stress for me, one, so I don't come off like an all knowing ass and two, it's rough needing to explain why things should be done a certain way. It's supposed to be fun. Fun dammit. It's just going to take time.

Works been too boring lately. I think that could be the reason my brain has turned to mush. We should get a kick ass 4 & 1/2 day weekend for the 4th. I have no real plans other than to go to the spagetti factory and built to spill with Maileen. Sunday I have class, but I wonder if we are going to have Ultimate Frisbee. I just want to relax.

I had a good omlette today. It was damn good. I went to Barney and watched the first half of the Argentina / Germany WC game. I wish I could have stayed to watch the rest.

I'm listening to the Ukraine / Italy game right now and... See you later Ukraine.

I got Cemetery Man and Beyond the Valley of the Dolls on DVD yesterday. I'll try to watch them this weekend.

Anything else? Oh, I won at poker last night. Three weeks in a row and counting.

Everything's Better in 3D!

Last night I went out at saw a double feature of The Creature from the Black Lagoon and It Came From Outer Space in 3D. It was awesome. The theatre was full and the audience was lively and we had a great time. I saw we, but truthfully, I saw it by myself. It didn't matter, I had fun. You missed out. More stuff should be in 3D. We had Spy Kids 3D and Nightmare on Elm street 6 and Friday the 13th part III and more probably, but darnit, lets see more gimmicky movies made that way.

I'm going to see Superman Returns in IMAX 3D because that sounds great doesn't it?

Speaking of movies, have you seen the Spiderman 3 trailer yet? Oh my god! I have to wait an entire year!?!?! Why, oh why?!?! I want it now.

The Mariners are hot, hot, hot, right now. They are sitting at an even .500. 39 wins and 39 losses. They can make it to the playoffs even. (Long time until then... a lot can happen.) So congratulations guys. I give you a pat on the back.

We are approching the weekend and I'm going to cross my fingers that we get a four day, 4th of July weekend. I think it's going to happen, but you never know.

I ordered a bunch of more bad action movies that I should recieve in the comming weeks. Have a huge list of movies that need Baction Reviews including the wonderful Stone Cold. Up comming reviews include, One Tough Bastard, 2020 Texas Gladiators and some crazy three hour Bollywood movie described as Silence of the Lambs meets Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas meets Face/off. If that description doesn't keep you reading, I don't know what will.

Monday. Howdy. Hey.

This weekend was really busy and action packed. I saw the mariners play and it was fantastic. It was a perfect night in San Diego, they sold tofu dogs at the stadium, we had really good seats and the mariners won. It was an exciting game. There were 8 homers total, but the best part was seeing 43 year old Jamie Moyer bat and hit an RBI single. I went nuts. I love that guy and it's good to see him get a win. Also, I should note that the M's are 3-0 with in the past few weeks when I have went to games (wearing my lucky jersey, of course).

I'm a little sore from playing ultimate frisbee yesterday. It was so hot out. I was sweating before we even started. It's great to have a weekly game going again.

Last night was also the premiere for the new season of The Venture Bros on adult swim. I am very happy about this. I don't even watch adult swim anymore because the shows suck. Venture Bros give me hope because the it's freakin amazing. Last nights premiere did not dissapoint either. I might even have to give it a second viewing.

This week should be pretty busy, I've got a lot of things going on including seeing Built to Spill on Saturday. Also, if I remember, I'm going to try and see a new Takashi Miike film playing at the Egyptian this friday. (And the old creature from the black lagoon in 3D on tuesday.) Plenty of stuff going on here in the city of angels.

I know I promised to describe getting my first union paycheck, but... well, I haven't gotten it yet. I should get it today, but my anxiety over the past two weeks seems to have burnt out any of the previous joy and turned it into "I have to live so just pay me dammit".

P.S. Baction is NOT dead. I'm going to get back on it soon.

Has anyone checked out Bradical.net yet? I donno what it is, but I should have thought of it first

So everything is going fairly well. I had some stressfull times at work earlier in the week but everything is a-okay now. I love it here. Payday tomorrow. I might be able to write a whole blog about how this first paycheck will change my life. Or I might be dissapointed after taxes. Stay tuned and find out...

I went to my first dodgers game ever and saw the Mariners play. It was so much fun. The mariners were leading then gave up 4 runs and were behind and then inched back to tie and then ended up winning. That's great. So far my mariners jersey/shirt I bought for $.98 is 2-0 and games this year. On Saturday I'm going to visit Tom and we are going to see the Mariners play the Padres in San Diego. Lookin' forward to it.

Oh.. the USA game. I woke up early and went to Barney's Beanery at 6:45am to watch the World Cup game. I had a breakfast burrito and then wished I had stuck with pancakes. It's unfortunate that the US team isn't better. They made a critical mistake, had trouble sinking the ball into the back of the next and well, you guys looked like you could've beat Ghana. But you didn't. And now you are out of the tournement. Yey. You and Japan can go home now. I'm rooting for--I donno. Is Mexico the new USA now? They are the underlying backbone of this country, right? They can carry the rest of my weight on their run at the cup. I'll probably root for Korea and maybe Equador for now. Why not? Gotta root for someone...

I've got a busy weekend. I'm going to rush home from san diego to play some ultimate frisbee on sunday. I can't wait.

Ew, it was ugly. The US soccer match that is. The team played good enough and it has succeeded, stringing out the nation's hope of advancing. So whoo-hooo!!! We're still in it folks. It will take some luck and actually scoring a goal, but it can still be done. I'm very happy that hollywood billiards will be open at 6am to show the US vs Ghana match--in which it will be hard not to root Ghana. They are super-likeable! They single-handedly gave the US a second chance at advancing. Anywhoo, I'll be watching intently BOTH games, which, I find weird that there are two very important World Cup matches on at the same time. (That's what the Billiards is for--I know...)

I've been hooked on the new Table Tennis game for xbox360. It's really simply and yet so frustrating. That's the perfect combination for fun right? Dave's really into to. He's a lot better, but what can you do?

The reason I haven't been writing much is that work has been wearing me out and I just don't have any energy by the time I get home. And now I'm in this huge dilemia because I wanted to hire Irv, but then I couldn't then I brought him in and it looked promising and then I got a call back from Penny. Shit. Shit. Shit. I'm so screwed either way because I made Irv getup early and then Penny drive out from Anahiem. So, that's my little-life crisis. Can't I just hire a posse to hang out with me?

I'm just beat. I have a busy week ahead and then to top it off, I'm going to San Diego on Saturday to see the Mariners play the padres. Some girl I met at Cannes is trying to get me to edit her short film and I just don't think it's possible. To edit it or to say no. That's another problem I have to address.

Alright, I'll hopefully bunch of sorted-outness and goodness to deliever next round.

So I'm settling into the "working on a movie mode". I'm here, it's eight, I don't know what time I'm getting out of here, but hey, I'm happy to be here. That's right. I don't nessicarily like it, but I'm so excited to be working with the same guys. I forgot how much I love them. It's really great, the first assistant came in today and continued to be optimistic and say, basically, we are going to have the good life, with not too much stress (I may need to be prepared to work 3 days a week on occasion...) Sweet. I also guess, that Alan was very adiment about getting me on and in the union and all that stuff. God Bless that man! I haven't seen him in eight months and he's going above and beyond the call of duty. I mean it. God Bless. He's really amazing. So, I'm very excited to be here late at night.

That's it. That's all the news I have. South Korea won right? That was fun game. I'm going over to Christian's to watch the US match in HDTV this saturday.

I'll write more, when more happens.

Celebersytings

I'm going to mention a few moments from the past two days, because it's fun.

I was at starbucks across the street from the new offices, when a short (and I mean short), miserable-looking Frankie Muniez entered. His complexion looked really bad. I felt sorry for him because he looked like he was in the worst stages of puberty (he's like 18 right?) and I was questioning whether or not it was him, then the lady at the register asked for his name to write on his cup. Sure enough, "Frankie."

I thought it was funny.

Also, I don't know if I have mentioned it before but Robin Williams has been hanging out the past four weeks at the UCB theatre a lot. I bumped into him last week. It's really weird for a number of reasons, because 1) you have to wonder if he's fallen so far over the past few year (RV and all) that he's been reduced to this. I don't think so--but you do have to wonder. More importantly 2) WHO CARES?!?!?! It's Robin Freakin' Williams and he's still funny. He's a super cool, down to earth guy to boot (which is what I'm going to get to in a sec). So what if he was a lot funnier during his coked-up days. It's great and yet awkward for the theatre. It's like a stray that just showed up one day and you kind of have to let it run around and do whatever the heck it wants. It's great for business, you know?

Anyways, there is this free show on monday nights, 11pm, called The Long Improv Jam. In truth, it's a cluster-fuck. It's a improv show, where anyone in the audience can basically get on stage and preform scenes. It's mostly attended by students at the theatre who want to get more experience/stage time. Now it's being (unoffically, offically) co-hosted by Robin Williams. So anyone can get on stage and preform improv with Robin Williams at this small theatre late at night for free. That's awesome! I went last night and it was a lot of fun. I didn't preform, but it was great to watch. I like to think that Robin likes doing improv and it keeps him sharp and he just loves inspiring the youth. Doing it for the kids. I hope that's why and not reason #1 listed above.

Either way it's a great time to be hanging out at the UCB.

Today is definatly a sad day world cup-wise, not only did the great US of A get the shiznit kicked out of them, poor old Japan (who Dunwatt is rooting--me too btw) also ended up self destructing in the last minutes of their game. [Big time!] So... oh well, I'm tradically rooting for all african teams as well as South Korea. I've watched every game so far--up to this afternoon's italty game... I'm not sure if I can watch another one...

I can also relate to Dunwatt in his lack of sleep, because I am getting up at an unacceptable 5:40 am so I can make pancakes before the games every morning. I'm tired. But it's a price to pay for once every four years.

I had a long, good day at work. I'm starting to fully realize how amazing it's going to be working for the director / CEO of the studio. The editorial crew is flying home on his private jet. This is awesome. It's a real great opportunity for me working closely with him for the better part of eight+ months.

It's going to take an entire long week of long days to make the offices feel set up. Oh well. Life is okay. It's probably better I don't get internet (until friday) because the WC hasn't been spoiled yet for me... I almost wish it had been so I didn't have to witness the heart-break of the US-Czech game....

I just got done watching the opening World Cup games. Entertaining, but sadly, I feel "down". I really shouldn't.

I went to work today. That could be it. Started the new job on a friday. I didn't want to and it really bummed be out. I signed my contract, which is amazing, but then I got overwhelmed. I wasn't really expecting to do much today, damn, I feel I'm way over my head, especially right now. I wanted to talk to the editing crew but they were busy and I was alone in the offices...

Oh well, the movies going to be sweet when it's all said and done. Everything's going to be top of the line in a lap of luxury. So no complains, I'm just anxious and nervious. Everything's going to be great.

6am tomorrow. England vs. Paraguay. Followed by two other games. Pancakes anyone?

Thursday, June 08, 2006

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my god!!! I just talked New Line and I have to meet with them tomorrow at 9:30am. What? I'm going to miss the opening game of the World Cup!! Fuck.

I am so depressed (and drunk since 3pm)... Unemployment was supposed to be great, why did you leave me? Damn. I can't really complain with the pay and all.... but I freakin would.

Shucks.... Screw you furniture which is being delivered. Screw you...

Highlights from Cannes:
  • Eating a ham and pesto crepe from a street vendor. It was amazing.
  • Tasting and buying fresh olive oil.
  • Coming home with a Tara Reid story.
  • Seeing the director of The Apple.
  • Seeing some good movies: Babel, Pan's Labrinth, Bug, Science of Sleep...
  • Walking the red carpet in a tux. It felt special.
  • Chocolate crossants and strawberry tarts. Hmmmm.
Lowpoints:
  • 4 bad movies for every good one. A lot of crappy films.
  • It's hard to pickup french women if you don't speak french.
  • Hotel room was borderline a hostel.
  • Oh, my email stopped working, so that was bummer.
All and all it was a great experience and I had a ton of fun. My travel mates complained when we got to Whales, but I enjoyed it a lot.

This week I've been getting "back into it" as they say. It's real hot here in LA. I bought new running shoes and sandels. Started level 2 of improv class. Dropped my phone into the ocean... It cost $200 to replace!! Can you believe that shit? Oh, well. Life goes on.

I start my new job--and new tier of my life--on monday. This is a great thing, but I am a little sad that I start as soon as monday because I thought I was going to have three weeks to relax and write. I'm really inspired comming off this trip and want to start a script, but there's just not time right now. This weekend I'm hoping to work out an outline.

But about the job. I've been approved to join the editing union. I have 30 days to pay dues. That's amazing. Simply amazing. I'm going to get a sizeable pay increase as well as work with people I love. I'm so fortunate.

Anyway, that's all I got for now maybe I'll have more to add next time.

World Cup is happening and that's going to take over much of my free time (and another reason why I didn't want to start working so soon....)

I have returned from my trip to Europe. It was awesome. Canne was very busy and glamorous.

I'm not inspired to recap everything yet. Watching Home Movies, Season 4. Highly recommend it.
